Desmon White and Jaimon Peterson boosted DeSoto to a 22-point victory over Arlington Martin after trailing by as much as 11 earlier in the game. Martin came out swinging, hoping to catch DeSoto, who beat them 46-7 early in the season, off guard.
From a Peterson touchdown, the Eagles led 6-3 after a slow first quarter. The Warriors took advantage of DeSoto’s unusually unproductive offense in the second with two early touchdowns to lead 17-6 midway through the quarter. The lead did not last long, as DeSoto came right back with 16 points of their own to take a 22-17 lead by the half.
After a productive third quarter by both sides, the two teams entered the fourth with a close score line at 36-26. Then the Eagles broke out with their biggest quarter of the game, marking 20 points, all the while holding Martin to just eight points, sealing a 56-34 victory.
Completing 16 of 22 passes, Desmon White was a crucial part of DeSoto’s strong finish passing for 169 yards and a touchdown. On top of that, White carried the ball 18 times for 180 yards and a score.
Peterson also had a huge offensive game. The halfback carried the ball 25 times, running for 123 yards and four touchdowns.
Advancing to the quarterfinals, DeSoto has a tough match against Trinity coming up. The Eagles, ranked 4th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 2nd in Texas, defeated Trinity, 59th in the nation and 6th in Texas, earlier this season 61-35. Looking to repeat their previous result, DeSoto meets with the Trojans on December 7 to decide who will make it to the semifinals.
