DeSoto opened their playoff campaign with an astonishing offensive performance consisting of ten touchdowns. Ranking 2nd in Texas and 4th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings, The Eagles (11-0) faced off against Copperas Cove on November 15 in a 67-21 victory.
Winning the first quarter 21-14, DeSoto was not prepared for the unranked Bulldawgs’ strong start. Throughout the second quarter, the Eagles put up 27 more points and shutout Copperas Cove, taking a 48-14 lead into the half. DeSoto did not stop there, tacking on three more touchdowns in the second half.
Desmon White led the offense, completing 24 of 30 passes for 393 yards and three touchdowns. Chris Lacy, White’s favorite target, caught seven passes, gaining 168 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles ground game was equally unstoppable. Jaimon Peterson carried the ball 17 times for 200 yards and four touchdowns. Adding to it, Larry Nixon had 20 carries for 136 yards and three more scores.
DeSoto’s tremendous start to the playoffs sets the tone to what can be expected from the Eagles in the coming games.
They next play Coppell on November 23. Ranking 4th in Texas and 22nd in the nation by DigitalSports, Coppell will not go down easily.
With a performance like Friday’s DeSoto expects to be able to bring down any opponent.
